Working with Energy: A Foundation

Understanding energy work without the New Age fluff—practical techniques for sensing and directing subtle forces.

Energy work has become associated with crystals, chakras, and complex systems. But at its core, it's simpler: you're working with attention, intention, and subtle sensation.

What Energy Actually Is

In the context of occult practice, "energy" refers to subtle forces that we can sense but not measure with conventional instruments. Whether this is literal energy, psychological projection, or something else entirely doesn't matter for practice. What matters is that working with it produces results.

Think of it like this: you can't see radio waves, but you know they exist because your phone works. Similarly, you can't see the subtle forces we call "energy," but you can sense and work with them.

Developing Sensitivity

Start with your own body. Sit quietly and bring attention to your hands. Notice any sensation—tingling, warmth, pressure, vibration. Don't judge it or analyze it. Just notice.

Now slowly move your hands apart, then bring them closer together. Notice how the sensation changes. This is energy sensitivity beginning to develop.

Most people think they're "not sensitive" to energy. The truth is, you are—you've just been taught to ignore subtle sensations in favor of the loud, obvious ones.

Basic Techniques

Grounding: Feel your awareness drop down through your body, through the floor, into the earth. You're not just imagining this—you're actually shifting your attention, which shifts your energy.

Centering: Bring your awareness to the center of your chest or belly. This is your core. When you're centered, you're less reactive, more stable.

Clearing: Visualize or feel light moving through your body, clearing stagnant or heavy energy. Or simply shake your body, physically releasing what doesn't serve.

Shielding: Create a boundary of light or sensation around yourself. This isn't about keeping everything out—it's about being selective about what you allow in.

Practical Application

Use these techniques before ritual, meditation, or any practice where you want to be clear and present. Use them when you feel scattered, drained, or overwhelmed.

The key is consistency. Practice daily, even if just for a minute. Over time, your sensitivity increases and the techniques become more powerful.

A Note on Skepticism

It's healthy to question. But try this: suspend disbelief for a week. Practice energy work techniques daily. Notice what happens. Then decide if it's real or not based on your experience, not your assumptions.

The proof is in the practice, not in the theory.
